“Great creations come from the mathematical mind, so we must always consider all that is mathematical as a means of mental development. It is certain that mathematics organize the abstract path of the mind, so we must offer it at an early age, in a clear and very accessible manner, as a stimulus to the child whose mind is yet to be organized.

- Maria Montessori

Maria Montessori believed that people are naturally inclined to create order, to organize, to observe relationships and quantify patterns. With the proper guidance and nurturing, everyone can develop the ability to reason and to calculate. Montessori math materials help children approach math with hands-on, visual, and physical learning aids. These materials allow children to attach concrete knowledge to the often abstract concepts in math. Once a child has a solid understanding of the decimal system, we move to the operations and present them in a specific order: (1) Addition, (2) Multiplication, (3), Subtraction, (4) Division (short and then long).
